Plavix Description

Plavix is an effective antiplatelet drug which is often recommended to lower the risk of heart attack or stroke in patients with atherosclerosis. Plavix can also be used to treat other conditions as recommended by your doctor. Many patients with atherosclerosis use the Plavix or its generic equivalent, Clopidogrel Bisulfate to reduce the risk of stroke or heart attack.

Plavix Directions

Your doctor will give you full directions on the use of Plavix catered to your medical needs/history. Plavix should be kept at room temperature, away from heat and sunlight. You may take Plavix on an empty stomach or with food. Do not miss a dose, and if you do miss it, take it as soon as you can. However if your next dose is due, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule.

Plavix Cautions

Do not buy Plavix if you have had an allergic reaction to it or its ingredients. Do not exceed the recommended dose prescribed by your doctor. Patients who are currently taking aspirin or may take aspirin during their treatment should seek medical advice to find out if it is safe to continue or to stop ingesting aspirin when taking Plavix. Certain medicines may contain pain relievers/fever reducers (NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, naproxen or aspirin) - check the labels before taking any medication and ask your pharmacist about using these products while taking this medication. Female patients who are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant should seek medical advice to learn about the implications of Plavix for unborn babies. It is not confirmed or known if Plavix is excreted in breast milk.

Plavix Side Effects

Some patients may experience mild side effects such as diarrhea or indigestion. If these continue or become worrying, speak to a doctor. Immediate medical attention should be sought for patients who experience any of the following symptoms: sudden, severe, persistent headache; severe dizziness; chest pains; vision changes; reddened, blistered or swollen skin; itching; back pain; abdominal pain; joint pain; nosebleeds; increased menstrual bleeding; unexplained vaginal bleeding; excessive bleeding from cuts; bleeding from gums when brushing teeth; unusual bruising; decreased urination; discoloration of urine or stool; black, tarry stools; sore throat; fever, chills or sore throat; speech problems; weakness; yellowing of the skin or eyes; or pale skin.

While allergic reactions to this medicine are not common, patients should seek immediate medical attention if any reaction occurs. Allergic reaction symptoms could include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness or trouble breathing or other effects not listed above. Contact your doctor, nurse or pharmacist if you develop any reaction or side effects. While Plavix aims to prevent the formation of blood clots, it has the chemical compound called clopidogrel hydrogen sulfate for the same; the chemical compound in Plavix may show some interactions with other drugs’ chemical compound.
